Xander returned to the room with the scroll in his hand and met Kaylan pacing tho and fro.

She’d been so restless and was walking about in the room when she noticed him walk in and she became still immediately. Was he there to release her?

Xander could notice how tensed she was but decided not to pay attention it. He walked past her to his closet, dropped the scroll and took out his belt.

Kaylan watched keenly, hoping he says something. But it was obvious he didn’t have such plans as he took what he wanted and started walking towards the door.

“My…. My Lord”: she called as she took a step closer and Xander stopped walking to look at her.
For a few seconds, she was out of words as those pretty eyes stared at hers.

“Can I….Am I free to go now?” She asked with a hard gulp.

Xander stared at her for a while before giving out a reply.
“I never said so” he muttered and walked away.

For real???

Kaylan covered her face with her palms as she could clearly feel frustration building up in her. What has she done to deserve this? Why would she be kept a prisoner when she was done nothing wrong?? Absolutely nothing?

She angrily walked to the window and rested get head. The Kaylan of old would’ve found a tricky way to leave the room by now; but recalling all she’d been through in the hands of Xander, it restricted her. Heck; she didn’t want to get on his bad side again and stand another chance of being whipped. But what could she possibly do to get out of here?? this was lockup!

“Please, you have to let me in” Jaden grouse as she stood in front of the guards.”I’ve been pleading here for a very long time now. What else should I do? I only want to see the Princess and be sure she’s safe”

“The princess is fine. You can’t go into the Master’s room without being called upon. So, leave before you get yourself into trouble”. The first guard warned sternly.

“Fine; I’ll leave. But can I just see her face, at least? Or if you wouldn’t let me in, call her out….”

“We have orders not to let her out of the room” he snapped in and Jaden bit her nail.
God! She was so worried about Kaylan. Why would Lord Xander restrict her from leaving the room?

“Okay, fine. But, can I just…”.

“Leave..! Now!!” The second one yelled, making Jaden flinch a bit.
Oops!

“You don’t have to be so hard on yourself; I’ll leave. But trust me if anything happens to her, you’ll have me to deal with”. She pointed her index finger at them.
The guards stared at her in surprise, wondering where she’d be getting the power from to challenge them.

But Jaden didn’t care as she just turned around and walked away.

HOURS LATER
***********************

Kaylan was sitting on the bed, her hands on her cheeks. She felt so lonely and bored and needed someone to talk to. But what could she do when she was locked up in the So called Master’s room?

Now, she’s learnt a lesson – a lesson never to implicate herself no matter the condition. If only she could get Xander to change his mind….

Shortly, the door opened and she lifted her head to see him walking in.

She sprang on her feet immediately, her heart giving a leap. He had tiny sweats on his forehead which indicated he’d been training at the field.

Kaylan lowered her gaze to the floor, seriously hoping he’d say something positive. Her heart was filed with suspense as Xander walked over to his closet to return his belt. He took off his head band and threw it right in as well.

“You can leave” he suddenly said, snapping Kaylan’s eyes open as she lifted her head quickly to look at him.
What??? Did she just…. did she just hear him correctly??? She can leave??

For real????

Her eyes were beaming.

“My… My Lord….”

“But next time, when you know you’ not ready to do something, you don’t bring it up”. He stated calmly and walked away, headed for the bathroom.

“Oh, goodness!” Kaylan covered her face with her palms.
She was free at last; after being so scared.

Without hesitation, she hurried towards the door and left the room.

Next Morning
*********************

It was all heated up – the sword fight between Lord Xander and Prince Berlin.
In less than two hours, it was to commence.

Lord Xander stood in front of the window with the sword in his hand, just staring at it.

He felt cold; couldn’t tell why. He just felt cold.

His gaze didn’t leave his sword. Until shortly, Hilda walked in with his meal…

Kaylan could feel her heart in her throat as soon as the words escaped his lips.

Her heart stopped beating instantly, confusion and anxiety taking over. What did… What did he just say?

“M…My Lord?” She stuttered, her eyes glued to his face.
“I don’t… I don’t think I understand”.

Xander said nothing, but only picked up some vegetables with his spoon.

Kaylan was gobsmacked. Was this guy for real?

Slowly, she turned and glanced at the door, a crazy idea popping in. Goodness! There was no way she could run away. His guards by the door would definitely seize her as soon as she steps a foot.

“You should start eating, Princess” his cold voice suddenly broke into her thoughts, snapping her out and she looked up at him.

“Um….Of course, I’ll eat. But the aspect of spending the night here, I hope that is different” she feigned a smile and began eating, while Xander said nothing.

The rest of the time at the dining was completely quiet as neither Kaylan nor Xander said a word.

Well, Lord Xander was usually the quiet type. So, it wasn’t a new thing. But Kaylan, she couldn’t say a word because she was in delima.

Lord Xander wasn’t a man to just play around with words… He couldn’t be joking about what he said. But then again, Kaylan didn’t want to believe he was actually serious. Why would he want her to spend the night in his bed? Simply because of that joke she’d said the previous day?? Seriously??

They were still eating when suddenly, his guard walked in.

“Greetings, My Lord” he bowed.
“Sorry to disturb, but King Ephraim is here to see you. He’s in the throne room”.

King Ephraim – Xander thought. That was sharon’s father. What was he doing there – unannounced?

“I’ll be there shortly” He replied and Axel bowed and left immediately.

Thank goodness – Kaylan heaved a sigh.

Not long after, Xander stood up with his meal untouched and that was like the best moment for Kaylan as she felt happy she’d be able to return to her room.

“You’re not permitted to leave this room for today, Princess” Xander suddenly said, making her eyes go open in shock.
Whaaat???

She stood up as well.

“I don’t… I don’t think I understand. Am I being arrested?” She asked, wearing a crumpled look.

“If you were being arrested, you’ll be in a cell by now”, Xander answered coldly, walking to his closet to get a jacket.
“You must’ve thought I was joking when I told you you’ll be spending the night here”.

For the Creator’s sake! Was he really serious??

For a minute, she was gobsmacked, even as he took his jacket and wore it on. But when he began walking towards her for the door, she found something to say.

“It’s fine” she sighed. “But I…. I’ll need to go to my room,at least. You know, I need a bath, need to change my clothes. I can’t do all of that here”.

Xander had stopped walking to listen at her, and he let out a scoff when she was done.

“Tell the guards to get you whatever clothes you need. You should have your bath here” he answered and finally walked out the door.

“Oh, no!” Kaylan muttered, turning to the direction of the door with her hands on her chest.

Lord Xander marched out of his room and met Axel and two other guards at the door.

“Make sure the Princess doesn’t leave this room” he said to the other two and started walking away, while Axel followed up behind him immediately.

The guards and maid servants they came across kept bowing to him as they walked by, but didn’t even get a wave in return. Well, they were used to it.

Finally, they arrived at the throne room and there they met King Ephraim already waiting, with his hands behind his back.

He’d have been sitting but, there were no seat for visitors in the throne room.

“Lord Xander” King Ephraim turned and called when he noticed his presence in the room.

Xander said nothing until he’d finally gotten to his position at the throne.

“Greetings, King Ephraim” his tone was rapt.
“To what do I owe this unannounced visit? You should’ve told me beforehand so I can set a proper table for us”.

“Oh, it’s nothing to worry about, Xander. I actually came around to see a close brother and decided to dash in to see you. How has it been with the community?” King Ephraim replied, taking a step closer.

“It has been great. And I trust you’re doing fine as well”. Xander asked.

“Ah! Of course”.

A brief silence stepped in.

“I heard you’re having a fight with Prince Berlin, come dawn tomorrow” King Ephraim asked.
“Some humans, simply don’t know their match”.

All Xander did was scoff. He wasn’t the type to discuss things and people with others. He wouldn’t call it gossip anyway”.

When King Ephraim noticed Xander didn’t have any interest in talking about the fight, he decided to move on.

“I’d have sent one of my messengers to bring this to you” ,he began, bringing out the letter he had in his hand.
“But since I came around, I decided it was best to just bring it over myself’.

He walked closer to the throne and handed the letter over to Xander.

“I hope you can take out time to read this. It has to do with My daughter”. He proffered the letter out to him, Lord Xander collected reluctantly.

“Have a nice day, Xander” he ended with a smile.

“And you too” Xander replied perfunctorily and watched the King leave.

By dawn of the following day, the news of the fight taking place between Lord Xander and Prince Berlin had gone really rival.

Kings and Rulers had gotten an invitation to the venue of the fight and they were all muddled, wondering why Prince Berlin would challenge someone like Xander to a fight.

They all know him – he was the master of swords, the demon fighter. Kingdoms were scared of going to war with him. So, why would Prince Berlin want to bring trouble for himself?

Some of them felt it was a waste of time going to see how a mere prince would be killed. But the others felt they would really want to enjoy the show.

That morning, Kaylan sat in the room with Jaden, talking over it with breakfast.

“But why would Prince Berlin challenge Lord Xander to a fight? Just because he wants revenge?” Jaden asked, munching on her bread.
“It’s just like a fly going to challenge a lion”.

Kaylan said nothing as she only ate in silence, having a doleful look on.

“What’s the problem with you, Kaylan? You don’t want the fight to go on?” Jaden asked.

“It’s not just that, Jaden. I don’t know why but, I feel so uncomfortable with the fight taking place tomorrow. I feel like… something bad is about to happen” Kaylan muttered.

“Oh, Kaylan. Will you stop being dramatic? It’s Lord Xander we’re talking about, you know? He’s undefeatable. I think Prince Berlin’s just acting out of anger and it’s so unfortunate that anger is going to get him killed. I wonder if his parents are not trying to stop him”. Jaden shook her head and took another munch from her bread.

They continued eating and just then, a knock came on the door.

“Who’s it?” Jaden did the asking and the door opened with Axel coming in.

“I didn’t ask you to come in. I only wanted to know who was knocking” Jaden snapped, but Axel said nothing as he only walked in with his shoulders high and stood in front of Kaylan.

“Greetings, Princess” he bowed a little.
“Sorry for the interruption, but Lord Xander wants you in his chambers – now”.

Kaylan’s jaws dropped. What???

She glanced at Jaden who was also looking gobsmacked.

“Wh…. why?” She stuttered, confused.

“I’m sorry, Princess. But I can’t say” Axel replied.

“And why would you deliver a message when you can’t state the reason?”Jaden cut in.
“My princess deserves to know why she’s being called upon”.

“Since you derive so much joy in being the princess’ spokesman, I’d suggest you go ask Lord Xander his reason for calling on her” Axel answered brusquely and returned his gaze to Kaylan.

“I’ll be waiting outside, My Princess” he added and started walking away, while Jaden’s mouth was agaped with shock.

“You’re completely mannerless, you know that?!” She rasped from behind.
“The nerves of that guy to speak that way to me”.

“Jaden, why do you think Xander’s calling for me?” Kaylan asked as soon as he walked pass the door, ignoring Jaden’s queries.

“I wish I had an idea, Kaylan. Did you do something wrong?” Jaden asked.

“I’ve been with you the whole time,Jaden. What could I possibly do wrong? Even if I did something wrong, you know you’ll be the first to find out”.

“Hmm…”
Jaden placed her hand on her jaw.

“Tell you what, Kaylan, I think you should just go for it. Yes, don’t worry. Just go. Since you didn’t do anything wrong, you shouldn’t be scared”. Jaden said.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes… it’s not like you have any other option, anyway. Come on, don’t commit a real offense by keeping him waiting” Jaden urged and Kaylan stood up afterwards.

She paused and took a downward glance at her dress.

“Do you think I’m good enough, or I should….”

“You’re good enough, Kaylan. It’s morning and no one should be seen with a heavy look” Jaden rolled her eyes, making Kaylan tweak her ear.

“Ouch….”

“You better mind the way you talk to me, Jaden. I can have you whipped”. She warned, but Jaden only bursted out laughing.

“Even if you become the ruler of the entire world, you can never have me punished” Jaden spanked her @ss while Kaylan laughed and left the room.

Getting outside, she met Axel still waiting for her and that was where her fears returned. Why was Xander calling for her?

He took the lead while she followed and after a long walk, they got to his chambers.

“He’s inside, Princess” Axel pointed to the room and took his position which was right beside the entrance, but Kaylan felt nervous going in.

“Um .. Do you think he wants to punish me?” She asked lowly, itching her nape.

“I don’t think so, Princess. I just see you should go in and see for yourself” he answered and fixed his gaze straight, indicating he didn’t want any more questions.

Kaylan was baffled. Why else would Xander be calling for her, huh? The only times he’s sent for her was when she’d done something wrong and he’d wanted to punish her. So, what could it be this time around?

Standing there and questioning herself, she decided she couldn’t get any answers from there and decided to go in herself.
